Can i tame a non hand fed possible adult lovebird?

my friend had this pair of birds for a couple weeks, but decided to no longer want them. he have them to me, they are 2 cute adorable lovebirds, but i dont know if i can tame them? ive had them for a few months now and it just seems as though im not making too much ground. they were originally bought off the street at the fashion district in la. so therefore im not too familiar with their history, and im pretty sure they are adults but im not sure as well. so any help, hints, or advice would be appreciated.
