Isn't God a lot like Big Brother?

God watches everything that we do. He is also an absolute ruler. He seeks to monopolize the people's loyalties (like all other absolute rulers). He cares little for dissent. His dictatorship is extremely similar to the fictional government of Oceania in George Orwell's "1984" -- with its menacing Big Brother symbol. There is at least one significant difference: God's totalitarian rule is far more inescapable than that of Big Brother.
